The Hassi Messaoud refinery (also known as the Haoud El Hamra refinery project) is a major strategic hydrocarbon project led by the Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach in the province of Ouargla, Algeria. The contract for its large video walls has been awarded to Dimensionis, a Spanish company, for €400,000.
Current Status and Progress of the Project:
Contractors and Restructuring: The contract was initially awarded in January 2020 to a consortium consisting of the Spanish company Técnicas Reunidas (55%) and the South Korean company Samsung Engineering (45%). Following various delays due to the pandemic, the economic crisis, and restructuring, in November 2024 the Chinese group Sinopec replaced Samsung Engineering (leaving Técnicas Reunidas with 51% and Sinopec with 49%).
Investment and Timeline: The project cost has been reevaluated at more than $4,000–4,300 million. Although the original plans called for it to become operational in previous years, the timeline has been pushed back, with completion now projected for late 2027.
The three central video walls have been contracted to Dimensionis, a Spanish company with extensive experience in control rooms, for a total of 400,000 euros.
The project has been designed using Barco products—professional modules controlled by the Transform N management system.
FAT testing will take place in January at Dimensionis’ headquarters in Lleida, where the company has its showroom and technical facilities.
